Shastri suggests the inclusion of Indian wicket-keeper batter Ishan Kishan as an opener alongside Rohit Sharma. This suggestion is based on the strategic advantage of having a left-handed batsman at the top of the order.

As things stand, India’s batting lineup is dominated by right-handed batsmen, with Ravindra Jadeja being the sole left-handed player in the probable eleven. With Shubman Gill, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Hardik Pandya securing their positions, there is a void for a left-handed batter among the top three positions.
This prompts consideration of Ishan Kishan as the opening batter, which could involve moving one of the regular openers to a lower position in the lineup.
Speaking candidly on Star Sports, Ravi Shastri expressed his preference for Ishan Kishan as an opening batter. He also proposed that other established top-order Indian batsmen should be open to adjusting their positions in the batting order to accommodate this change.
“At the top of the order, nowhere else. And the others have to be flexible. Between Rohit, Virat, and Shubman Gill, that can be 2, 3, 4. If you have persisted with Ishan Kishan for the last six to eight months, and he’s going to keep wickets, he comes in, in any case. Ishan Kishan has been keeping for the last 15 months. Why go somewhere else?” Shastri’s opinion reflects a strategic perspective aimed at optimizing the batting lineup for success.
