Kargil Vijay Diwas is observed to honor the soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the 1999 Kargil war, leading India to victory over Pakistan.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh paid heartfelt tributes to the fallen soldiers.

The two-day commemoration event commenced with a solemn ceremony attended by war heroes and families of fallen soldiers.

Army Chief Gen Manoj Pande and Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi were present as chief guests at the event.

In the evening, a touching gesture was made by lighting 559 lamps at the Veer Bhoomi, symbolizing each brave soldier who fought for the nation.

Gen Manoj Pande interacted with veterans, 'Veer Naris', gallantry award recipients, and locals in Ladakh's Drass to convey his gratitude.

"Operation Vijay" was successfully culminated on July 26, 1999, marking the victory of the Indian forces in the Kargil war.

The commemoration event showcased military bands and cultural performances, celebrating the rich culture of Ladakh.

The day serves as a reminder of the courage and sacrifice of the Indian Armed Forces for the nation's sovereignty.
