In the Bangalore Test of 2017, Ashwin took six wickets to help India level the series against Australia.

In the Adelaide Test of 2020-21, Ashwin was picked by the Indian skipper despite his overseas record and picked up four wickets in the first innings.

Despite being injured, Ashwin helped India save the Sydney Test of 2020-21.
