- Second ODI between India and West Indies at Sabina Park, Kingston, Jamaica, 2009 India was reduced to 7/3 and then 82/8, and it appeared as if India was going to lose the game. Dhoni stepped up and formed a 101-run partnership with RP Singh for the ninth wicket. His innings was valiant, and he scored a 130-ball 95, but India lost the match.
- Fourth Test match between India and England at Nagpur, 2012 India was trailing by 259 runs in the series, and it was the last chance to avert a series loss. Dhoni joined forces with Virat Kohli to form a 198-run partnership for the fifth wicket.
