IPL 2023: Lockie Ferguson Injury - Another Blow to KKR
Lockie Ferguson Injury: Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have suffered a major setback ahead of the IPL 2023 as their key pacer, Lockie Ferguson, has been ruled out of the first ODI against Sri Lanka due to a hamstring injury. Lockie Ferguson Injury adds to the injury woes of KKR, as their captain Shreyas Iyer is also out of action due to a back injury.
Lockie Ferguson was supposed to land in Kolkata on March 26, but his injury has put his availability in doubt. New Zealand’s bowling coach Shane Jurgensen confirmed the injury after the training session, stating that the right-arm fast bowler had been complaining about his back since playing for the Plunket Shield for Aucklands a few weeks ago.
KKR has been struggling with injuries as Bangladesh cricketers Shakib Al Hasan and Litton Das are also out of action due to the Ireland series. This will be a huge concern for KKR as they rely heavily on their overseas players, and the absence of three key players will put them at a disadvantage in the upcoming IPL season.
Lockie Ferguson was traded to KKR in an all-cash deal along with wicketkeeper-batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz after winning the IPL with Hardik Pandya’s Gujarat Titans last season. He picked up 12 wickets in 13 games last year with GT and was expected to play a crucial role in KKR’s bowling attack this year.
